Let your emotions RAIN
Last week we talked about the 4 things we typically do when we are feeling an emotion.
Today I want to share a helpful acronym with you to help you allow your emotions.
R.A.I.N.
R stands for RECOGNIZE: Name the feeling. Are you hurt, resentful, disappointed, frustrated, ashamed, etc?
A is for ALLOW: Make space for the emotion. Let it be there. Don't judge yourself or make it go away. How does it feel to just let it be? “I am feeling____, and it’s ok.”
I is for INVESTIGATE: Observe the feeling with compassion and curiosity. Where is this feeling in my body? What is it like? Picture what is going on in your body. Describe it in detail. Get out of your brain and spend time in your body.
N stands for NURTURE: What is the most compassionate thought I could have for myself right now? What do I need? How can I support myself as I feel this emotion?
RAIN
We MUST be willing to feel our present emotions BEFORE we can move on to feeling better.
Instead of avoiding, resisting and reacting try to let it RAIN!
