What Are You Doing With Your Emotions?

When we are feeling an emotion we basically have 4 options.

1: We can resist them: Pretend everything is fine, tightening up to the emotion. This is exhausting and can take a toll on our health.

2: We can escape them: Think ice cream, Instagram, Netflix, "angry cleaning", overworking, retail therapy (shopping). These actions are not problematic, but when we use them to avoid our emotions they can be.

3: We can react to them: Imagine a two year old having a temper tantrum. It is throwing one yourself. Feeling out of control.

4: We can feel our feelings: Take a deep breath. Let the emotion be there. Don't judge it or hurry it along. Make space for the emotion to be there with curiosity and compassion.

Of the 4, feeling our feelings is the healthiest option.

In order to heal we need to let ourselves feel.

Like anything new, it takes practice.

I promise it is worth it my friend.
