All Or Nothing Thinking

I don't know about you, but I can be a very black and white kind of gal.

Often I find myself falling into the all or nothing thinking trap.

Sometimes we do this because it is easier for our brains.

It's either one way or the other, avoiding the discomfort of all the what if's and uncertainty.

When we think we are in the right spot, it feels comfortable.

Here is the thing though, life isn't black or white, good or bad.

Our mixed faith relationships certainly aren't either.

We like to think it's either this way or that way, but there is another option...AND.

AND.

It is one of my favorite words.

We are good AND bad.

There is this way AND that way.

We succeed AND fail.

All-or-nothing thinking often keeps us stuck and gets in the way of connecting with our loved one: If I ate 2 cookies, I might as well finish the pan. If it’s not perfect, it's terrible. If we don't agree, there is a problem. If they ___________, they are not a good person.

All or nothing thinking limits your options in your life and in your relationships.

Embrace the "AND."

Somedays I am a rockstar AND somedays I am a disaster. I see things different and I still love you. We are on different paths AND I am here for you.

There's good AND bad, black AND white, right AND wrong.
