How Much Room Do You Have In Your Heart?
I love Christmas. The lights, the time spent with family, the peppermint and gingerbread, the thoughtful gifts. I love caroling and letting the messages of the beautiful hymns about Christ sink into my soul. Joy To The World has a loving lyrical line that grabs my attention. “Let every heart prepare Him room” has had me pondering for years. What does it mean to have room in your heart? I am not a cardiologist so I am totally making this up here, but let’s say your heart is a finite space, I am going to randomly throw out 16 ounces. If my heart has the capacity to hold 16 ounces, and I want to prepare room in my heart, what is occupying the space in my heart?
For the most part, I think my heart is filled with things I want in there: love, compassion, curiosity, forgiveness, peace, etc. I also know that part of the human experience is to have opposing emotions as well. There is opposition in all things. Sometimes I feel: disappointment, resentment, grief, anger, irritation, humiliation, etc. When I allow those emotions and let them move through me, then I make space for the things I want in my heart. And the beautiful thing is… Christ will help me do it.
How much space do I want to leave for Christ in my heart? If I would like to give Him my whole heart, what emotions do I need to allow so I can make more space for Him and the other important people in my life starting with MYSELF. Even if it is just 2 ounces of resentment and ½ ounce of anger, I am the one who feels it.
This Christmas, give yourself the gift of making space in your heart. I can show you how. Click the button and let’s set up a free mini session.
Merry Christmas my friends!
