Worst day ever OR Today was my lucky day.

A few weeks ago I was having a rough day.

My plans had fallen through, my leg was really sore, and “life” was happening all around me.

The pain in my leg got worse so I ended up having my doctor look at it.

After spending a bunch of time at the hospital, I found out that I had a DVT (a blood clot) in my calf.

It was painful, expensive, and inconvenient.

I found myself thinking, “I have the worst luck.”

I allowed myself to feel the fear, disappointment, and sadness that came up for me.

Once I had allowed those emotions I tried one of my favorite coaching tools: I flipped that thought around to the opposite, “Today was my lucky day.”

Our brains don’t want to be wrong

When we think a thought our brain goes to work finding all the evidence of why that thought is true

When I gave my brain a different assignment there was plenty of evidence that I was super lucky: because my plans had fallen through I had an open schedule, luckily my leg hurt so I knew there was a problem, I was prompted to seek medical advice, I was able to get in to my doctors office, the ultrasound technician was skilled and spotted the problem, my doctors office is in the hospital so I didn’t have to pay for a pricey ER visit, I was able to get started on medication to help me, I live in a time with modern medicine, and had so much love and support from my people.

Seriously, I am a lucky gal.

Having a blood clot was out of my control, but I had options in the way I chose to think about it.

I have plenty of evidence for either perspective but I get to choose what serves me best

I have some homework for you this week.

Find a thought you find yourself thinking and ask yourself, is it possible that the opposite is true

I am the worst mom OR I am a great mom.

My mixed faith marriage is so hard OR there are great things about my marriage.

My life is unfulfilling OR my life is full of blessings.

I want to offer that you will find evidence of either thought.

What one serves you best?

My super power as a coach is empowing my clients with the tools they need to create the relationships, results, and lives they want.

I would love to chat with you in a free mini session to see if what I offer could change your life.
