This Is NOT What I Signed Up For.

Over the years since my loved ones have been out of the church, if I could focus on the main thing my brain likes to tell me it is "This is NOT what I signed up for."

When I am thinking that thought, I can find all sorts of evidence for why that is true: going to church by myself, conversations I never thought I would have, unmet expectations, and I can go on and on and on.

My brain doesn't want to be wrong.

But you know what is just as true?

This could be the perfect experience for me to become the best version of myself.

When I am focusing on that, there is just as much evidence for why that is true: I am becoming more Christlike, I am less judgmental, I am learning to be more inclusive, I am loving more, and I can go on and on and on.

Here is the thing.

They are both true.

I can choose what I want to focus on.
