Favorite Mixed Faith Conference Quotes
There have been a few talks from General Conference that have brought me so much peace in regards to my mixed faith family.
I want to share a few of them with you today.
“Remember, families are a God-given laboratory where we’re figuring things out, so missteps and miscalculations are not just possible but probable. And wouldn’t it be interesting if, at the end of our lives, we could see that those relationships, even those challenging moments, were the very things that helped us to become more like our Savior? Each difficult interaction is an opportunity to learn how to love at a deeper level—a godlike level.
It’s the Savior’s work to bring our loved ones back. It’s His work and His timing. It is our work to provide the hope and a heart they can come home to. “We have neither [God’s] authority to condemn nor His power to redeem, but we have been authorized to exercise His love.”
Tamara W. Runia, First Counselor in the Young Women General Presidency
“A prophet of God once offered me counsel that gives me peace. I was worried that the choices of others might make it impossible for our family to be together forever. He said, “You are worrying about the wrong problem. You just live worthy of the celestial kingdom, and the family arrangements will be more wonderful than you can imagine.”
Henry B. Eyring
The Hope of Eternal Family Love 2016
“Question: If I have family or friends who are less active, how far do I go in my attempts to bring them back?
“My answer is please do not preach to them! Your family members or friends already know the Church’s teachings. They don’t need another lecture! What they need—what we all need—is love and understanding, not judging.
Also, be genuinely interested in their lives, their successes, and their challenges. Always be warm, gentle, loving, and kind.”
—President M. Russell Ballard, Acting President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
“Let us follow the Savior’s path and increase our compassion, diminish our tendency to judge, and stop being the inspectors of the spirituality of others. Listening with love is one of the greatest gifts we can offer, and we may be able to help carry or lift the heavy clouds that suffocate our loved ones and friends so that, through our love, they can once again feel the Holy Ghost and perceive the light that emanates from Jesus Christ.”
--Sister Reyna I. Aburto, Second Counselor in the Relief Society General Presidency
I hope these bring you some peace as well.
