Christmas In A Mixed Faith Family

It's the most wonderful time of the year AND Christmas can be tricky in a mixed faith relationship.

My husband and kids have zero interest in religion so I have learned to reframe Christmas as we celebrate together as a family.

Instead of me wanting to create a spiritual experience for them, I focus on showing up as the mom and wife I want to be so I can have the spirit.

The scriptures teach us that anything good is of God.

Even if I am not actively talking about Christ with my people I can certainly feel the Spirit in the things we have chosen to make part of our Christmas traditions.

I don’t point that out to them, but if I focus on being Christlike, Christ stays a part of my Christmas.

You don’t have to be churchy to share the light of Christ.

Here are just a few ideas you could consider:

  • Go caroling at a care center (Even if you are singing about Frosty the snowman, I guarantee you will see eyes light up and hearts fill with love)

  • Deliver neighbor gifts

  • Invite someone over for dinner who would have been alone at Christmas

  • Do Sub for Santa for a family in need

  • Pay for the car behind you at the drive through

  • Attend a Christmas celebration from another faith as a family

  • Volunteer at your local food bank

  • Find an organization that delivers Christmas meals to shut-ins

  • Contact your local Ronald McDonald house to see how you can help there

  • Light The World has 50 ways to put good into the world. Click here to download the list.

  • Listen to this episode on Navigating A Mixed Faith Christmas for more ideas.

Sending you lots of love as you prepare for Christmas.
