Christmas In A Mixed Faith Family
It's the most wonderful time of the year AND Christmas can be tricky in a mixed faith relationship.
My husband and kids have zero interest in religion so I have learned to reframe Christmas as we celebrate together as a family.
Instead of me wanting to create a spiritual experience for them, I focus on showing up as the mom and wife I want to be so I can have the spirit.
The scriptures teach us that anything good is of God.
Even if I am not actively talking about Christ with my people I can certainly feel the Spirit in the things we have chosen to make part of our Christmas traditions.
I don’t point that out to them, but if I focus on being Christlike, Christ stays a part of my Christmas.
You don’t have to be churchy to share the light of Christ.
Here are just a few ideas you could consider:
Go caroling at a care center (Even if you are singing about Frosty the snowman, I guarantee you will see eyes light up and hearts fill with love)
Deliver neighbor gifts
Invite someone over for dinner who would have been alone at Christmas
Do Sub for Santa for a family in need
Pay for the car behind you at the drive through
Attend a Christmas celebration from another faith as a family
Volunteer at your local food bank
Find an organization that delivers Christmas meals to shut-ins
Contact your local Ronald McDonald house to see how you can help there
